The Public Folder Management Console has a couple of quirks. Note that to see the properties of a Public Folder it must be expanded in the left pane to make the individual folder visible in the right hand pane. Right click the folder in the right hand pane to see the properties:.

For example to list all folders with their name and replicas. Your email address will not be published. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. Tidy Up In an ideal work the Exchange admins will know the business justifications for each Public Folder, and can know which are valid and which are not.

If it is possible to do some clean up, that would be fantastic but I will not be holding my breath…… Environment Check Before we start adding replicas to Exchange , it is worth verifying that we will not experience a known issue.

To do this, click Start , click Run , type adsiedit. You will see the empty Administrative Group. This may be the root of the Public Folder hierarchy, or a sub-tree, Server Optional This parameter specifies the server to operate against.

Back in the properties dialog box, click OK to make the changes and close the dialog box. The Replicas parameter lists each database that holds a replica of the public folder. When you add a replica to the set, you need to make sure that you also list the names of the existing replicas. If you run this command and leave one of the existing replicas out of the list, that replica is removed from the list and no longer receives replication of that folder.

The following command shows you how to list the current replicas on the folder:. The following command illustrates how multiple public folder replicas can be defined for a public folder using the EMS:. There are common situations where you may need to move all public folders hosted on one server to another server.

For example, this is a typical concern when you decommission a Mailbox server that has a public store. Wait for content replication to complete. You can certainly perform these steps one at a time for each public folder on the old database.

However, Exchange Server provides you with PowerShell scripts that do the heavy lifting for you. Table 1 outlines the scripts available for moving public folders. The one thing that these scripts do not do for you is unset the old public folder database as the default public folder database on existing mailbox databases. You will need to do this manually on the mailbox databases. To move all the public folders from one server to another using a PowerShell script, complete the following steps:.

Use the following command to change your current directory to the scripts directory:. If you did not install Exchange to the default location, you will need to change the current directory to the folder path that you installed Exchange into.

Run the MoveAllReplicas. Modify the default public folder store on the mailbox databases that were pointing to the old replica. You can use the following one-liner to change them to the new public folder store:. After you are certain that content replication is complete, delete the old database using the steps in the section " Delete a Public Folder Database ," earlier in this article. The easiest way to determine if content replication is complete is to look at the folders in the replicas and see if the public folder content is present.

Replication occurs every 15 minutes by default, and this is defined on the public folder database. When you override this schedule, you can set a custom replication schedule on the database itself or on a per-folder basis.

When you modify the replication schedule for the database, you affect all public folders that do not have custom replication schedules defined. You have two options for changing the replication schedule on the database:.

Change the days and times that replication occurs. Change the number of minutes between replication cycles when replication is performed continuously.

To modify these settings in the EMC, follow these steps:. In the Work area, select the Database Management tab and select the public folder database that you want to modify the replication schedule on.

In the Action menu for the public folder database, click the Properties option to open the properties dialog box for the database. In the database's properties dialog box, select the Replication tab. To modify the replication interval, select a new interval from the drop-down list in the Replication Interval section. You also have the option of clicking the Customize button to configure replication to occur only on certain days or during certain timeframes.

For example, Figure 1 demonstrates setting replication to occur only on weekends between 8 p. If you choose Always Run for the replication interval, you can modify how frequently the interval runs. In the field Replication Interval For "Always Run" Minutes , enter the number of minutes that you want replication to wait before performing another replication cycle.

The default time is 15 minutes. After you have set the schedule that you want to use, click OK to close the properties dialog box and make your changes.
